Government had shared inputs on threat to railway

New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) A day after a train bombing in Assam, the union home ministry Monday said it had shared with the state government 'a number of intelligence inputs' on possible threats to the railway network in the northeastern state.

'In the last three months, the central government had shared a number of intelligence inputs with the government of Assam on possible threats to the railway network,' a home ministry statement said.

These intelligence inputs, the statement said, pointed to possible violent acts by a faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) opposed to a peace dialogue with the centre.

The bombing of a passenger train near Ghograpara in western Assam's Nalbari district Sunday evening left more than 100 people injured, 20 of them critically.

However, the terror outfit has denied involvement in the bombing, the statement said.

It hinted at the possible involvement of the Adivasi People's Army.

Citing an email received by a Guwahati-based TV channel from the tribal outfit, the statement said: 'This group has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast. The email has been sent by Sylvia Orang, a self-styled commander of the group. He is otherwise known as Soren.'

The central government has asked the state to maintain 'utmost vigil, especially regarding the railway network' after the overnight separatist bombing.
